Trending Colors for 2021
The Pantone Color Institute is at it again. As they have each year for the past 22 years, they’ve made their Color of the Year selection. The Institute’s choice is based on research and cultural understanding, and it can very much influence anything that has color, from automobiles to clothing to interior design. At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we’ll be happy to help you understand the Color of the Year and how it could impact your home. Read on to learn more!
This Year’s Selection
The Color of the Year for 2021 is actually TWO colors. The last time that happened was in 2016, when the Institute chose Serenity and Rose Quartz. “The selection of two independent colors highlights how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person; it’s about more than one,” noted Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. The colors are PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating (a bright yellow). The gray evokes a sense of solid and dependable natural elements with a weathered look, such as pebbles on a beach or weather-worn barnwood. The yellow is bright, cheerful, and vivacious, evoking a sense of the solar power of the sun.
How the Color Is Selected
Selecting the Color of the Year takes approximately nine months. The staff at PANTONE explores a variety of industries to collect what they refer to as “proof points.” They review the latest from the auto industry, designer runways, and interior decorating showcases. Once they identify the trends, they narrow down the choices.
Using the Colors in Your Home
This gray and yellow combo will bring a ray of sunshine and a drop of positivity to any room. Add a little or a lot—through bedding, tableware, throw pillows, or wall paint—to convey a welcoming message. You can also look to your windows for a spot of the new colors. One option is to add to your current window treatments with coordinating side panels. Check out the Design Studio™ from Hunter Douglas for options, including choices from Rebecca Atwood’s designer collection.
