Custom Kitchen Cabinets

One of the most used rooms in the home, the kitchen can also easily get outdated. Remodeling it, however, can be daunting. At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we’ve had numerous customers remodel their kitchens with fantastic results. They’ve simply approached the endeavor with a good plan, including understanding the components of a kitchen to select the right features.

About Kitchen Components

Design and functionality are the mainstay of any kitchen. Kitchen components are designed to optimize workflow, food preparation, and cleanup. While functionality and ease of use are critical to how you feel about your new kitchen, style matters too. What you select will create an environment for you to not only prepare meals, but also to relax and entertain.

  • Countertops. Research the different types of countertop material. Each is unique in terms of its style, durability, and price range. Look at options for a backsplash, and think about how it will look with your countertop choice. Backsplash choices include metal, stone, tile, or glass.
  • Cabinets. New kitchen cabinets make up the majority of your remodeled kitchen’s look and feel. Door styles define your cabinet choice, as do stains and colors.
  • Sink. Your sink can be standard or extra-deep single or double bowl, made of stainless steel, enamel-coated cast iron, solid surfaced, or composite, and it can be mounted flush with the countertop or above it.
  • Faucet. Consider the functionality of the faucet and how you use it—it can have one handle or two, be shaped as a gooseneck for higher clearances, and come with a sprayer and/or a water filter. Finishes include nickel, matte black, chrome, pewter, gold, and bronze.
  • Hardware. Cabinet handles and hinges are not only functional but also part of your overall design. They can be traditional, contemporary, or transitional, in the form of knobs, pulls, or a combination. Be sure to choose a finish that matches or complements your cabinets, counters, or appliances such as chrome, ceramic, glass, or wood.

Kitchen Window Fashions

Complete your kitchen remodel by selecting window fashions that match your lifestyle and aesthetic.

  • Blinds. For kitchens with high moisture, a good choice would be aluminum or faux wood blinds, such as Hunter Douglas Everwood® Alternative wood Blinds or Modern Precious® Aluminum Blinds. They never go out of style, can be cleaned fairly easily, and are a good value.
  • Shades. Shades that add a more contemporary look in the kitchen are Hunter Douglas Designer roller and screen shades, Duette® Honeycomb Shades, and Provenance® Woven Woods. For a more traditional look, consider Design Studio™ and Vignette® Modern Roman Shades. There is a price point for every budget. But remember, shades made from fabric may be susceptible to grease and food stains.
  • Shutters. Using shutters is a low-maintenance alternative that still controls light levels and views. The Palm Beach™ Polysatin Shutter from Hunter Douglas is perfect for over the kitchen sink. This shutter is constructed with UV-resistant vinyl, so they’re guaranteed never to warp, crack, fade, chip, peel, or discolor, regardless of extreme heat or moisture.
  • Drapery and Top Treatments. Used alone or in combination with blinds, shades, or shutters, drapery and top treatments will add the finishing touch to your kitchen windows. They are easy to clean and can bring a pop of color and softness to a space that might otherwise be dominated by hard surfaces and metal.
