Mocha Mousse

This color is all about comfort, with tones reminiscent of both chocolate and coffee. Called a “warming brown hue imbued with richness,” Mocha Mousse brings up a feeling of simple pleasures. Leatrice Eastman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, notes that the color “extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe.” She further notes that it is “sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic” and that it “expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence.”

A Full Color Palette

The Pantone Color Institute reports that, “With a subtle elegance and sensorial richness…Mocha Mousse empowers you to create moments of luxury that may be intimate in scale but can extend a sense of indulgence throughout the day.” With its “earthy refinement,” Mocha Mousse presents a versatile foundation that is easily complemented. Excellent matches include floral colors like violet, rose tan, and willow green, as well as earthy tones like cream, tan, and amber.

Numerous Collaborations

For over two decades, Pantone has named a color of the year. In 1963, the company created the Pantone Matching System, a proprietary system used in a variety of industries—such as printing, graphic design, fashion design, and home décor—to manage colors, and since then, it has swayed trends in color for numerous industries, from fashion to automotive to interior design. With this latest color, Pantone has worked with numerous well-known brands, which have created aspects of their upcoming products to match the color. Collaborations include with Motorola, Joybird, Wix, Spoonflower, Post-it, and more. It won’t take long for you to see Mocha Mousse all around you when you shop!

Using Mocha Mousse in the Home

If you’re interested in bringing the color of the year into your interior design, you can do it in a number of ways. Add pops of it in accents like throw pillows, throw rugs, and wall décor. Or go bolder by painting walls and/or ceilings with the hue. You can also add dimension with window fashions, whether you use a complementary color or one from the palette. Great options from Hunter Douglas include Designer Roller Shades, screen shades, Vignette® Modern Roman Shades, and Sonnette® Cellular Roller Shades. Or you can layer your windows by adding side panels or drapery to already existing window fashion to add drama to the space.
