It’s Springtime, Get Your Home Ready
The calendar tells us spring is here, so now’s a great time to take care of some annual tasks and get your home prepped for the new season. At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we have a few ideas of things to take care of. Check them out below!
General Tasks
If you haven’t tackled these yet, now is a great time. You can clean out your garage and get any accumulated junk gone. You can do the same with your basement or storage area. And now is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Clean the Gutters
If you put off ridding your gutters of any leaves, muck, and debris might be in there, you could have some trouble down the road. Once you’ve cleared the foreign material from the gutters, be sure the downspouts send the water at least five feet from the structure of your home.
Your Dryer Vent
If you’ve got clogged lint in your dryer vent, you’ve got a fire hazard. Just cleaning the trap at each load doesn’t mean lint isn’t getting into your vent, so now’s a great time to get in there and get rid of it. Just disconnect the vent from the back of your machine and remove the lint with a dryer vent brush or a strong vacuum. Also be sure to brush the lint from the external dryer vent cover outside your home.
Help Your View
Both the outside and inside of your windows could be grimy right now, which could be impeding your view. Now’s a great time to get them clean—and to clean up your screens. Just get some mild soapy water in a tub or utility sink, and wipe the screens with a rag. Repair any breaks or replace screens that are beyond repair. Finally, do some maintenance on your window treatments. For blinds and shades, just use a dust cloth or feather duster. You can vacuum treatments like Silhouette® using the brush attachment. If you have cellular shades like Duette® Cellular Shades, grab some compressed air to clean out the dust. And clean aluminum or faux wood blinds (such as Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds) with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. Reinstall the treatment while it’s still damp, and lower it to let it completely dry. If your treatments are beyond repair, be sure to speak with one of our consultants.
