How to Create a Relaxing Haven
At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we know that many of our customers just want to come home to a relaxing space after work and on the weekends. But sometimes, it can seem like that haven is elusive. Never fear, though, if you are wondering how to make your home filled with relaxation, we have some tips. Read on!
Creating Your Refuge
Getting a breather from the everyday chaos of life shouldn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it can often just boil down to some decoration choices. To start, give at least one room a foundation of neutral colors. As you might guess, bright colors make for a more active, vibrant space. But if you’re looking to unwind, a milder palette with neutral colors can create a greater sense of ease. And don’t worry! Neutrals don’t have to be boring—you can add pops of color in specific areas to brighten the tone, and you can add texture in things like area rugs, comfy blankets, throw pillows, and artwork to create additional visual interest. Next, declutter to bring on the peace and calm. You might not consciously realize it, but any clutter could be gnawing at your subconscious mind, making it harder for you to relax. So clear the clutter. Use baskets, decorative boxes, or soft space cubes as storage for things like paperwork. Pare down your décor to only the items you really love—a busy room can lead to anxiety and stress.
Make Use of Natural Light
As you look around your space, consider this: Animals can teach us a thing or two about enjoying that patch of natural light. And even if it’s not direct sunlight shining through your window, the way that light works—dancing through a tree’s leaves or reflecting on a nearby pond—can feel magical. Let your window fashions lead the way here. Hunter Douglas window treatments can work perfectly for light diffusion (check out Silhouette® Window Shadings, Pirouette® Window Shadings, or Designer Banded Shades from Hunter Douglas), light control (such as through the tilting power of Heritance® Hardwood Shutters), or full sunlight with privacy (as with the top-down/bottom-up operation available on many Hunter Douglas treatments). Especially in the winter, light can be the most important relaxation tool, so speak with one of our specialists to find out what will be best for your particular needs and goals.
