Plastic in Our Oceans
Oceans have become a dumping ground for plastics, which, in ocean currents, collect to become giant floating death traps for animals such as sea turtles, whales, and dolphins. To help ensure the sustainability of our oceans and their sea life, Hunter Douglas partnered with Bionic®, a materials-engineering company that has created programs for coastal recycling in developing countries. They’ve developed ways to upcycle ocean trash plastics into sustainable fabrics and have designed a yarn from those wastes specifically for Hunter Douglas. That yarn is the base for the new GreenScreen® Sea-Tex™ fabrics, which Hunter Douglas uses exclusively for Designer Screen Shades.
About Screen Shades Fabric
Screen shades are all about the tightness of the weave. If the weave is loose, it will allow more light in and vice versa. For example, if a shade has an openness factor of 5%, more light will come into the room. The GreenScreen Sea-Tex fabric comes in five neutral tones with 3% openness value.
