Design Tips for Decorating Seasonally
Do you feel bored with your home’s look? Are you searching for ways to spruce it up? At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we have a couple of ideas about how to make some easy changes, including seasonally rotating your décor. Check out our thoughts below!
Ways to Approach Seasonal Décor
Rotating your décor each season can both transform your home and bring in an element of nature: as things change outside, they’ll also be changing inside. Spring can mean brighter colors and floral arrangements to represent new growth. Summer is about vitality, so lighter fabrics can be good. Autumn is about external transformation, so warm colors work well. And winter is about refuge, so softer textures and lighting are good. Here are some other thoughts:
- Integrate Perishables. Perishables are a great decorative element that allows you to express your flair. In autumn, mini pumpkins and gourds bring in earth tones and textures that reflect the outdoors. In winter, a bowl of oranges or lemons can brighten the space and illuminate the room. In spring and summer, fresh flowers, potted herbs, and bowls of fruit will add an atmosphere of life and growth.
- Use Aromatics. We associate certain scents with each season. In autumn, our memories are stirred by wafts of cinnamon and clove, while pine, cedarwood, and peppermint are often matched with winter. In spring, we frequently smell floral and citrus scents, and summer is all about the bliss of freedom, so coconut or “ocean breeze” scents work well. You can find these fragrances in essential oils or scented candles.
- Add Functional Accents. Rotating functional features of the room can quickly and easily evoke the seasons. Switch out themed hand towels in the bathroom or kitchen to celebrate each season’s major holidays. Update framed family photos each season to show summer family adventures or wintertime fun in the mountains.
Window Fashions
A good approach to window fashions in a seasonal rotation is to find something that will quietly complement each change—neutral colors work the best. Great options include Hunter Douglas Designer Roller Shades and Silhouette® Sheer Shades. Also consider using layers—side panels and drapery can help plus-up the space and can be easily rotated.
